Windows 7 Editions , What is the differences ?

Lets start with Windows 7-

There are 6 different version of MS Windows Seven :

  1. Win 7 Starter
  2. Home Basic
  3. Home Premium
  4. Win 7 Professional
  5. Win 7 Enterprise
  6. Win 7 Ultimate
Question in our mind "What is the differences?"

So we need to understand why MS released 6 version of Win 7 OS.

1. What is Win 7 Starter?

Windows 7 starter is available from retailers and on new computers installed by manufacturers. Windows 7 starter dose not support , AERO USER INTERFACE/DVD PLAYBACK/WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER/IIS WEB SERVER/ICS-(Internet Connection Sharing)/ Cannot Join with domain, and some of the Win Seven features not supported-
  • EFS - Encrypting File System
  • App- Locker
  • Direct Access
  • BIT Locker
  • Remote Desktop Host
  • Branch Cache
  • Supports 1 Physical Processor
2. What is Windows 7 Home Basic

Windows 7 Home basic Version is available only in rising market.Home Basic also comes with some limitations.AERO USER INTERFACE/DVD PLAYBACK/WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER/IIS WEB SERVER/ICS-(Internet Connection Sharing) / Windows 7 domain joining not supported.
The x86 version supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM, whereas the x64 version supports a maximum of 8 GB of RAM.
Features not supported:-

  • EFS - Encrypting File System
  • App- Locker
  • Direct Access
  • BIT Locker
  • Remote Desktop Host
  • Branch Cache
  • Supports 1 Physical Processor
What is Windows 7 Home Premium ?

Windows 7 Home Premium is available from retailers and on new computers installed by manufacturers. Good news for Users , its supports lots of features which is not supported by Windows 7 Starter and Home Basic editions.
Home premium supports Windows Aero UI, DVD playback, Windows Media Center, Internet connection sharing, and the IIS Web Server. But Home premium does not support enterprises features like :-
  • EFS - Encrypting File System
  • App- Locker
  • Direct Access
  • BIT Locker
  • Remote Desktop Host
  • Branch Cache
The x86 version of Windows 7 Home Premium supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM, whereas the x64 version supports a maximum of 16 GB of RAM. Windows 7 Home Premium supports up to two physical processors.

Windows 7 Professionals Version !

Windows 7 Professional is available from retailers and on new computers installed by manufacturers. Its supports all the features which is supported by Home Premium. And we can able to join with domain also.Its supports EFS and Remote Desktop host but does not support enterprise features AppLocker, Direct Access, Bit Locker, and Branch Cache. Windows 7 Professional supports up to two physical processors.

Windows 7 Enterprise and Ultimate Editions !

The Windows 7 Enterprise and Ultimate editions are identical except for the fact that Windows 7 Enterprise is available only to Microsoft's volume licensing customers, and Windows 7 Ultimate is available from retailers and on new computers installed by manufacturers.
The both Operating system supports all enterprise features and supports 2 physical Processors.
